Cubs To Sign Jake Buchanan

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to sign Jake Buchanan to a Minor League contract.

Buchanan was released by the Houston Astros earlier Thursday.

Buchanan, 26, has a 4.06 ERA, 5.1 K/9 and 1.56 K/9 over 44 1/3 career Major League innings.

Cubs Release Shane Victorino, Re-Sign Him To Minors Deal

The Chicago Cubs released Shane Victorino, Munenori Kawasaki and Manny Parra on Tuesday, and then re-signed all three to Minor League contracts.

Victorino, 35, has been slowed this spring by a strained right calf. Victorino had agreed to "re-create spring training" and rehab with the team.

Kawasaki, 34, batted .375 in 19 spring games, hitting six doubles and drawing seven walks.

Parra, 33, did not give up a run over 5 2/3 innings in six spring games, striking out eight and walking one.

Rangers Release Drew Stubbs

The Texas Rangers have released Drew Stubbs.

Stubbs exercised the opt-out provision in his contract after it became apparent that he wouldn't be added to the 40-man roster.

Stubbs, 31, hit .195/.283/.382 in 140 plates appearances split between the Rangers and Colorado Rockies last season.

Tigers Release Bobby Parnell, Casey McGehee

The Detriot Tigers have parted ways with Bobby Parnell and Casey McGehee via unconditional release.

Brad Ausmus left the door open for either Parnell or McGehee to return in the future.

"Yeah, yeah," Ausmus told reporters. "There's a chance."

Detroit also demoted Bruce Rondon to Triple-A.

The young flamethrower, who was sent home by the Tigers last September for work-ethic issues, came into camp with arguably the most to prove of any player.

The Atlanta Braves have released Nick Swisher.

Swisher is set to make $15 million this season, but the Braves are set to receive $14,631,148 from the Cleveland Indians by June 30 as part of last season's trade that brought Swisher and Michael Bourn over for Chris Johnson.

Swisher hit just .195 with four homers and 17 RBIs in 46 games for the Braves last season.
